Rufus Wainwright has long been known for blending Great American Songbook style with lush, orchestrated pop and operatic flourishes. But on this track from his latest record All Days Are Nights: Songs for Lulu, his first release since the death of his folk singer mother Kate McGarrigle in January, Wainwright trades in grand arrangements for a more naked -- yet equally rich -- chamber pop approach. Accompanying himself with graceful, rolling piano arpeggios and armed with his elegant, signature tenor, Wainwright sings an enigmatic tune full of beautifully gloomy yearning. Tonight's show will open with a performance from Wainwright's father Loudon Wainwright III and will feature songs from Rufus Wainwright's Judy Garland tribute show.
